The University of Newcastle is proud to present its new professors through a dynamic public lecture series, New Professors Talk. This series introduces you to the new people in our community and shares the knowledge and expertise of these leading commentators and thinkers.

Professor Alan Hayes AM, Director of UON’s Family Action Centre, will present the talk, Does the Family Have a Future? on 30 March at the Newcastle Museum.

Strong families and capable communities are the foundation for vibrant, adaptable societies that confidently confront the challenges and opportunities of global change.

Professor Hayes will discuss the pressing need for innovative services to address complex social problems and explore the future of Australian families in consideration of demographic, social and economic trends since the Second World War.

Professor Hayes joins UON from the Australian Institute of Family Studies where he served as Director and CEO from 2004-15. His research and policy interests include the pathways children and their families take through life, and the role of families in supporting and sustaining development across life.

Attendance is free, but registration is essential.
