In 2015, the University of Newcastle is celebrating our 50th anniversary.
Throughout the year, UON will be celebrating our community and your pivotal role in our history and our future; celebrating our leaders who have shaped the University and are among our academics, researchers, professional staff and students; celebrating our graduates who form the centrepiece of UON’s story; and celebrating our future – looking to the next 50 years for the University and our regions.
We have come a long way since the Hunter’s long, determined and at times ‘fiery’ campaign for its own university (the community at one time set placards alight on the steps of City Hall!), which resulted in achieving our own autonomous university in 1965.
In 2015, the community and your University have a great deal to celebrate. Our 50th anniversary celebration will be a year-long festival of events at UON campuses and around the globe. It will be a time for recognising the outstanding achievements of our staff and students, past and present. It will be a chance for our communities to come together, to celebrate where we have come from and to embrace all that the future holds.
Be part of our 50th birthday by getting involved in the celebrations. You can stay up to date with events and community engagement news by signing up to UON Engage’s e-newsletter using the form on the right of this page.
