HMRI Volunteers

Volunteering at the Hunter Medical Research Institute

The HMRI Research Programs draw together basic biomedical, clinical and public health researchers from Hunter New England Health, the University of Newcastle and Calvary Mater Newcastle, who are conducting the best health and medical research to improve the wellbeing of the community.

HMRI and University of Newcastle asthma researcher Dr Hayley Scott tells why health and medical research volunteers are so important in this video at the HMRI website.

HMRI offers many opportunities for people who would like to contribute to HMRI by volunteering.

The role of a ‘Team HMRI‘ volunteer is an important one as HMRI relies on its volunteers to offer support and assist with fundraising. As a Team HMRI volunteer you can assist with general administration, event fundraising, seminars, HMRI Building tours and general fundraising activities.

Research volunteers are of course extremely important. Without human participants, many aspects of health and medical research simply cannot happen.

The HMRI Research Register links Hunter researchers with volunteers. Launched in 2005, the Research Register recruits a central database of people who are interested in contributing to medical research.

The register helps researchers by making recruitment of research participants faster and more economical. Even more importantly, it can improve the quality of research by providing access to a wider cross-section of the population.

If you are a resident of the Hunter region and you would like an information pack about the Research Register, please call the Register Co-ordinator on (02) 4042 0010, email, or submit your postal details online.

More information about volunteering with Team HMRI is also available at the HMRI website.
