Vanuatu Coral Reef Trip

For the second time this year volunteers have the opportunity to head to Hideaway Island in Vanuatu to take part in UON’s Coral Reef Regeneration program.

Staff, students and the general public are invited to roll their sleeves up and get involved with the bi-annual project which was established through the discipline of Marine Science by lecturer Dr Ken Zimmerman.

Since the project was established in July two years ago, a coral reef replanting nursery has been built to restore parts of the reef damaged by storms and fishing.

A reef monitoring system was also introduced to continually examine the health of existing coral reefs and look for changes over time.

There are a variety of participation levels to choose from, catering for both the highly experienced or marine enthusiast to those interested in just coming along for a Pacific getaway.

Spaces are limited and filling fast so get in touch soon.
