Event Details

It might appear that gender equity is no longer an issue for higher education. Statistics show that women are accessing higher education in greater numbers than ever before in many countries, often exceeding the numbers of male students. Drawing on students’ stories, Penny Jane Burke will explore why gender remains a significant challenge for equity in and outside of higher education.

Professor Penny Jane Burke is Co-Director for the Centre of Excellence for Equity in Higher Education (CEEHE) at UON.

A leading scholar in the field of access to and equity in higher education, Professor Burke was most recently Professor of Education and Founder/Director of the Paulo Freire Institute UK, at the University of Roehampton, London.

Penny holds Bachelors degrees in arts and education, a Masters of Education, and a PhD, from the University of London.
